Nick has been a Corporate Barrister for 39 years, much of the time in senior roles in companies in different fields. Since Autumn 2016 Nick has been a Corporate Barrister Partner of GunnerCooke LLP - ABS Law Firm of the year 2015 and 2016 - where all 150+ partners are self-employed. GunnerCooke is a new-style senior-lawyers-only law firm, with a hub in Leeds, and offices in the City of London and Manchester too, and also has non-lawyer Consultants in different fields too.
Nick is also a Director of various companies, where he: undertakes consultancy and interim roles; advises on raising investment for companies (including start-ups); advices on mergers & acquisitions; and supports companies needing general corporate and compliance guidance. He has been CEO of a University spin-out tech start-up where he raised the investment for, and took the company through two investment rounds.
He also undertakes political/public affairs consultancy, having been an MP 1992-2005, in Government in junior roles 1995-1997, and a Shadow Minister for 6 years. His most senior role was Shadow Solicitor-General.

In his past career he has been the senior in-house Barrister for the old Access Credit cards, Group Legal Adviser to Lloyds Abbey Life plc (majority-owned by Lloyds Bank) Legal Director of Danoptra, a £165 Leisure, Sports and Gaming Group (based in Horsforth) 2007-2011, and 2012-5, Chief Executive of Acoustic Sensing Technology (U.K.) Ltd, a spin-out tech start-up from Bradford University, for which he successfully raised investment via friends in the City and took through a subsequent investment round and got established with sales to major UK and international household-name customers.
