The Yorkshire Mafia – Independent Consultants and Freelancers are a sub -roup of the Yorkshire Mafia and hold monthly 'Consult Yorkshire' networking events.
For our September meeting we have arranged an evening of networking and speaking from the excellent guest speaker DETECTIVE CHIEF INSPECTOR VANESSA SMITH – Yorkshire and Humber Regional Cyber Crime Unit.

DCI Vanessa Smith is head of the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Cyber Crime Unit. She has served in West Yorkshire Police for 22 years, developing the force’s first cyber crime unit and cyber response strategy. During her career, she has also investigated historical child sex abuse allegations, managed Registered Sex Offenders and managed teams tackling serious organised crime.
Vanessa’s talk will give an overview of: an awareness of cyber crime:
- an overview of the types of cyber crimes committed
- a profile types who commit cyber crime
- recommendations of how to protect yourself from becoming a victim of cyber crime
- a look at Cyber attacks on businesses and the impact caused
- a view on Traditional crime versus cyber crime
- the cost of cyber crime.
